It is a lovely city and the hortillonages are very interesting and lovely to walk in. The cathedral is well worth a visit and we had the privilege of attending Sunday Mass there which we loved. Very reverent and befitting of true worship. Beautiful singing. We can also recommend Ad Hoc Café in the St Leu district. Good food and well priced; good vibe.

This visit (my second to Amiens) Day 1 started at the Saturday canal-side market, lots of stalls with seasonal vegetables, fruit and herbs grown in the Hortonillage and the Somme region. Then I dipped into some shops - including an inspiring visit to the ground floor of the big Monoprix where clever lighting makes quite ordinary day to day food look irresistible, some of the many new and secondhand bookshops, a huge ironmongers and an over-the-top patisserie. In the afternoon, to Jules Verne's house: a wonderfully, eccentric building; full of marvellous furniture and objects, very well curated. I spent the whole of Day 2 (7 am - 4 pm at the extraordinary - huge - Spring Braderie. I found that my visit to the Jules Verne house, and its thoughtful interpretation made the market especially enjoyable. Many of the stalls had examples of the things I had found so interesting in the house - for instance archeological finds, including flint axes, found around Amiens; corals and shells; endless examples of oil lamps (some working, other 'do-er' uppers). Many stalls had very good pieces of ceramic from different periods and cultures. Lots of the stall holders were up for a good bit of haggling. Then a glass of beer in the sun-shine ,sitting on the street outside a cafe, buzzing with laughing locals and visitors. Amiens is a very walkable city, its buildings are fabulous. It's lively and very clean.

Lovely old town centre and especially the cathedral. Well worth a look around. Nice cafes. Parking was initially a problem as large town centre car park ticket machines did not work. We got a side street machine which worked fine.

Amiens is a small city, and perfect for walking.

Amiens is a small city, and perfect for walking. The cathedral in particular, is spectacular, but it's not the only place of interest in, or around, the town. St Leu, and Les Hortillonnages, plus Le Jardin des Plantes, are well worth visiting and, of course, many of the WW1 sites are within very easy reach, by car.

Staff incredibly friendly and helpful. Rooms and all public areas were always bright and clean. Really good to have amenities in the private room of kettle, fridge, fully opening window, soft towels and complete bathroom grooming and washing extras. The bed was super comfortable. Lovely little garden to escape into with in the hotel inner courtyard. Great location in the centre of Amiens and with particular note to it's wonderful proximity to the cathedral and riverside restaurant quarter.

The Gem is ideally located for a few days in Amiens, the heart of the city centre is all within easy walking distance. We didn't need the car during our stay so having free parking at the end of the road was really helpful. Recommendations for dinner options were spot-on and really good bread, croissants, coffee and juice for breakfast. The room was spacious, comfortable and peaceful. This was a much better option than similarly priced chain hotels.

The house is beautiful, stylish and conveniently located near the main of Amiens. Great decor. We appreciated the parking available on site. Although close to the city center, it was a very quiet location. The hosts, Phillipe and Oliver, were charming and made us feel very comfortable. What a lovely garden they have. Walking distance from Jules Verne Circus and Museum. Amiens, a city worth visiting too.

I'm not sure about "Grand Hotel of the Universe", but this is a nice hotel in its category, with large, comfortable and nicely decorated rooms, which are well-priced. It is well-located, at one end of Amiens' pedestrianised central zone, very near the train station and an easy walk to all sights.

The location was a short walk away from the more central area of Amiens by the Notre-dame cathedral and shopping district. It's not a hugely busy part of town so it's great for sleep. Romauld is a great host in general, as well since he was very attentive and fixed the minor issues I had.

Everything. If we could be more complimentary we would be. We would single out the excellent decor, the terrace looking on the Somme and the 10 minute walk to the largest Cathedral in France. Quality Restaurants on the Quai are 5 minutes away. We liked being on the ground floor too.
