The capital of Lower Saxony, beautiful Hanover has been so thoughtfully planned that you can’t tell it was largely destroyed in World War II. The city is full of green spaces, one of which is by huge Maschsee lake where sailors and rowers share the waters with pedaloes. In winter you may be able to skate there. A smaller lake in the Maschpark closer to the centre reflects the grand New Town Hall overlooking it.
The Old Town Hall is in the Old Town where half-timbered buildings were brought from all areas of the city during rebuilding. The square behind hosts one of the Hanover Christmas markets. The others are on Kröpcke pedestrian shopping street, and in front of the station, where the city’s main shopping centre - Ernst August Gallerie – is located.
To the north are the incredible, landscaped Herrenhausen Gardens – awash with colour for much of the year. This area gives its name to the local pilsener – Herrenhäuser. Also here are colourful sculptures by Niki de Saint Phalle, whose work is also displayed in the Sprengel modern art museum.
Set in an Expo City and host of many festivals, the accommodation in Hanover can get booked up quickly, so choose yours on Booking.com soon after booking your flight to Hanover Airport.

I didn't expect much from the city, but it turned out to be amazing! It is clean, quiet, comfortable and beautiful. I liked the red line on the pedestrian roads that connects all the landmarks and guides you while walking - it's a perfect option for such lazy tourists like me who don't like to prepare a must-see list in advance 😁
Food - for meat lovers, I would recommend the Afgan restaurant "Masa". You won't regret 👌
The shopping area is located right near the train station - there are quite many shops.

Hannover is a typical German city with a pleasant city center where shops remain open until the evening. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from. The main draw seems to be the Hannover Messe events. If you're seeking peace and quiet, Hannover might fit the bill, but some may find it a bit boring.

I liked that Hannover city has limited traffic around the main railway station where only of buses, taxis and bicycles move quite slowly. The roads can be crossed easily, no rushing. Also, where traffic lights are for pedestrians, the green light is coming very soon after touching the button. Public transport is excellent - always in close proximity with multiple choices, moving exactly, except the buses which sometimes delay. The town is very clean.

If Hannover turly is, as is often heard, the most boring city in Germany, it makes me want to explore more of what Germany has to offer. I mean, how nice must all the other cities be if they find Hannover boring, as it is not boring at all.
Like many larger German cities Hannover was bombed and mostly destroyed in the war and has been rebuilt. If you want to see original pre-war Germany, then you can take an easy day-trip to Celle which has been voted as the most beautiful German small town. Also the famous Hameln is an easily doable day-trip.

Hannover was a nice surprise.
Hannover was a nice surprise.
We stayed close to the ZOO and only 1.3 km from the railway station, which meant, we could walk to the city centre.
Very good shopping opportunities and a very nice self-guided walking sight seeing tour around the city.
Nice places to eat.
It is right in front of the Hauptbahnhof. Mind you, Hannover Hauptbahnhof is like a shopping mall, with a lot of entrances. If you are able to locate VW tower from the Bahnhof, just go in that direction, and Novotel Suites is right next to it.
The room is comfy and spacious with a shower and a bathtub, TV, complementary tea and coffee, microwave oven, etc. The check-in and out processes are smooth.
I traveled from another city where I stayed in a different hotel. It was too noisy and the room was too small there. Was very happy finally to get some rest at the Mercure Hotel!
My room at the Mercure was big enough and tidy. There is a lovely park in front of the hotel. The underground parking was also not too busy, easy to find. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Recommended!
The place has all the appliance you may even think to need, we were traveling lite for buisness and were verry happy that the place had all the things you might need :) also the extra blankets were a plus. Parking space infront and a balcony since we are smokers and that is extreamly problematic in most hotels in Germany, bakery near by and close the Masse
We ran the Hannover half marathon and stayed at the Mercure Hotel City. Basically just a stones throw from the start of the run.
The room was spacious, the beds firm, the shower as you would wish it.
Really friendly staff, despite the stress of an event weekend. And a wonderful bonus of a late checkout.
I can really recommend this hotel.
Nice hotel which was built just recently. Small room but that was OK because it was well organized. Nice breakfast and friendly staff. They used "Du" (You) which does not matter for me, that is standard in Sweden, but very strange in Germany. Just some "fun fact".
Comparing to the same H+ hotel chain in another city in Germany, this one was much much better. Nice rooms, big parking space, good breakfast options and nice environment. You also get 2 small bottles of water as a complimentary option.
This was first experince with YORS Boutique Hotel and really I havent expected such a good service from them . This Hotel probably the best in Hannover if to compare with other hotels in this city
The staff is very kind. The room had a large window that could be opened. The breakfast buffet was fantastic, and the view on the Market Square very pretty. The hotel has a dog-friendly policy.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. This was my first time to Germany and they were very patient in helping with how to navigate the train and other questions.
