A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, whose highlight is walking through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.
The city’s most recognisable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the colour of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.
Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping centre has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.
South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this is not the city’s only sporting heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules football and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.
Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodation from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.
I live about 300kms from Melbourne, in East Gippsland.
I live about 300kms from Melbourne, in East Gippsland. I very rarely visit Melbourne, but when I do I find it an easy city to find my way around.
There is a wide variety of places to stay, places to see and places to eat at; all tastes are catered for!
Traffic can be a problem at certain times of the day, especially lately with a lot of heavy-duty upgrades to road and rail links ongoing, but public transport is pretty good, on the whole.
Places I definitely like to visit when in town would be Melbourne Zoo, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Melbourne Museum, the Immigration Museum and the Botanic Gardens. There are also many beautiful public parks in Melbourne, too many to mention.
If you are prepared to drive a little way, the Dandenong Ranges are just on the edge of the city, with their numerous attractions. Going the other way, there would be Point Cook RAAF base, with the Aviation Museum.
All in all something for everyone- shops, food, views, the lot.

Sooo many traffic lights if you're driving!
Sooo many traffic lights if you're driving! Melbourne city is great for walking around and the free public transport in the CBD make it easy to get around if you get a little tired. Melbourne has wonderful gardens to stroll through and a great range of shops from the high end boutiques to the quirky little shops in the arcades.

Our trip was specifically to go to Werribee Zoo but also explore a little of Melbourne. Beautiful weather although a little colder than we expected and driving wasn't as bad as we thought it would be. We stayed within walking distance of Southbank which made it easy to walk to the promenade, cross the river and use the free tram to get around the city. The few restaurants we visited were fantastic. We ran out of time to explore all of the things on our to-do list but will certainly be back.

Always love Melbourne so much to do and time goes so fast.
Always love Melbourne so much to do and time goes so fast. Love the diversity of the city and you can be who you are without any judgement.
Mel has great restaurants, cafes and bars, However people say Melbourne has the best coffee, I disagree in 6 days we were there we tried so many coffee places and no one knows how to do a good ice latte, also most of the hot lattes or cappuccinos I tried were not nice either, but best coffee I had was at the airport which is sad.
Love the public transport network and that all trams within the city are free, so it great getting around.

Its fabulous.
Its fabulous. Go to Melbourne, get lost, have a ball, see so much. You can do Melbourne alone or with friends. It has slowed a little since the dreaded Covid killed the world, but is still has its flavour. Melbourne is friendly, its what you make of it. You could have $50 to play with for a week after trams, trains, food and accommodation and you could still have a wonderful time. Plus Melbourne coffee is often $1 cheaper than the rest of Australia. Melbourne is a wonderful dream, people talk to you, its pretty safe, no one is stuck up and its fun. Melbourne is where your imagination is ignited and its a lovely thing.
Great location and friendly staff. Everything you need in a room, nice bed, quiet, warm, a nice little kitchenette with cups, plates bowls, cutlery. Bathroom had a big bath! That’s always a plus for us. Parking right next to hotel, $35 a night, quite reasonable for a capital city. Easy to drive to hotel as it’s at located at east edge of cbd, moments walk to trams, trains, parks, theatres. A woolies metro supermarket around the corner. A free coffee machine (and tea) in the lobby.
This place is super-convenient to get to, being literally just over the road from Southern Cross train station and the Skybus terminus (to and from the airport), and on the edge of the CBD. Walking distance to multiple city highlights. The hotel itself is a charming historic building retaining an Art Deco vibe both inside and out. King room fairly standard features for this price range but the bed was particularly comfortable which is the highest priority for us.
Great rooms, self contained, ample size for one in the Studio which I had and nice city outlook if high enough. Cannot fault the staff (thank you Arun and team) and the great location right by Sth Yarra station. I booked a rollaway bed for the last 2 nights when a friend stayed, and it was all set up and comfortable, no problem. I booked this because my go to hotel in the CBD was booked, but now I have another that I would reuse when back in Melbourne.
Amazing apartment hotel in Melbourne CBD. Fully furnished with in-unit washer & dryer, very nice furniture/kitchen fixtures. We used the kitchen to cook our own meals each night and it had everything we needed! Really felt high quality and made it a wonderful stay. There was a fitness center in the building with a large pool (indoor) as well. Super convenient to get to/from the airport, just a short walk to the sky bus terminal
Location was great, handy to get to anywhere in the Melbourne CBD. Lots of restaurants nearby (though most beyond our budget! and not so family friendly) . Close to tram to the Australian Open and walk to Flinders Station area/across to Southbank and city shopping. Big spacious living space and bedrooms, large wardrobes. Good aircon. Reception stored our luggage on checkout day as our flight was later in the day.
Worth every cent! Beautiful hotel, classy and very comfortable rooms; staff members are not only polite but very well trained and genuinely caring people. The location is fantastic on Southgate and close to Melbourne CBD, perfect if you have to go to the Exhibition Centre, 10 mins walking distance while enjoying a beautiful city/river view (wear comfy shoes!). We’ll definitely come back again, highly recommended!
Great location in a leafy street not far from the Melbourne CBD. I had a function in Northcote and it's a short walk from here to the Metro train line that heads through Clifton Hill/Northcote. I arrived via motorobike and the footpath is wide so plenty of room to park the bike on the street. Iron and ironing board in the room and worked well. Plenty of space.
The Rendezvous Hotel in Flinders St Melbourne was a great find for our stay to go and see The fabulous show Moulin Rouge at The Regent in Melbourne. We had a comfy bed. Loved the breakfast provided. Very friendly staff. The location was great . Within walking distance to the Regent and restaurants over at Southbank. A lovely old style Att Nouvaux hotel.
The hotel is located quite centrally within Melbourne's CBD, which is quite convenient. Flagstaff station (trams, trains, busses) is just across from the hotel. Moreover, the hotel's tram stop is within the city's "Free Tram Zone", which allows you to get to most places of interest within the city centre quickly and at no extra cost.
Cheap n cheerful kid friendly hotel. Perfect location to grab a surf across road at Urbn surf. Free bus pick up from airport - just ring Ciloms. Skybus to CBD was easy and lockers at the station to dump bags while exploring before check-in to melb bnb was easy as. Good restaurant at Urbn surf had vego options and good beer.
beautiful view of the docklands and the city, very modern appartments and also very clean, great location as it’s only a short walk to Spencer street station, cbd and the district shopping mall, honestly one of my favourite hotels that I have stayed so far in Melbourne, front desk girl was also very lovely
Extremely good location, only 5-7 bus stops away from CBD. If you preferred to walk, it only takes around 25 mins and you'll get to enjoy strolling through the lovely Flagstaff Gardens. Very clean and cozy, friendly and helpful staff, plus we even got upgraded both times we checked in at the hotel.
Despite that I thought I was booking the CBD apartments and arriving at the Docklands instead was a bit of a surprise, we really enjoyed the location. It was quiet and there was a tram stop right outside making travel around Melbourne very easy. The room was large, clean and well equipped.
Location, location, location. The Vibe is perfectly located at the heart of the Melbourne CBD. The hotel is also new with great layout, and the bathroom design particularly is excellent. Check in & out experience was seamless, and the bed was very comfortable. Highly recommended.
It was extremely convenient location for me due to my late arrival and the bus connection option I used from the airport to the CBD Melbourne. It was just a few minutes walk from the terminal bus stop to the hotel, which was quick and easy even with my moderate luggage load.
The property is located at Melbourne CBD. Everything is near. Melbourne Central, restaurants, there’s a nearby supermarket like 2 mins away the apartment. The city views in the morning and night adds up to the beauty of this pretty new property.
Huge apartments with everything you need. Excellent location in the Melbourne CBD, particularly for the best dining and access to Flinders St Station. Great value for money.
Facilities for price were great. Access to Melbourne CBD was easy. Hotel bar and restaurant very handy and reasonably priced. Staff friendly and helpful, 11am checkout.
Quest apartments Bayside St Kilda is a 20 minute tram ride to the Melbourne CBD and walking distance to the Port Philip Bay beaches and Acland Street Village.
