It is a nice place, with an interesting architecture, lots of swimming pools and water tubes. It connects with Caciulata (you could say they are almost one city and not two).
I would recommend it for thermal water, swimming pools, ferryboat on Olt river.
I wouldn't recommend it for the heavy traffic periods, whidh is wasting some of your time. You have to wake up early, if you want to make sure your day is well spent and you're not staying in traffic.

A cozy small resort in a very beautiful place.
A cozy small resort in a very beautiful place. To make full use of it (drink mineral water, visit different pools, explore the nature around, etc), you'll definitely need more than a week.
Having a car would help significantly.

We wanted to try out the the thermal baths on the way back to Bucharest which was an experience. Unfortunately these thermal baths are always linked to banal hotel chains. So it is better to find a room in the many guesthouses around.
A lot lays around that one main lane and the restaurant we chose didn't have good cuisine. So otherwise it is not a very authentic village.
I was there too short but I think the place is interesting for hiking in nature.

There are some mountain nature walks which are easy to be done by families (walk to the Lotrisor waterfall).
I really enjoyed the Old Valley in Calimanesti.
The garbage could be collected more often and the mountain paths to be cleaned more
Clean, comfort, feeling like home. Hosts are flexible, they adapted quick to bring in our room a big table as I wotked from there for a few days. They provided helpful suggestions regarding the places to visit around Calimanesti. Communication went very well, wonderful hosts.
10 stars for Calimanesti city, happy to found it well improved when returning after 3 years.Very clean, flowers everywhere, you feel like in another country...
We, as a group of friends, chose to stay in River hotel during our travel across Transalpina. For that purpose it had a great location for us. Hotel looks like it's been renovated or built recently, all facilities are new and fresh. If you choose to stay in this hotel then definitely try their breakfast and especially - Romanian breakfast. Hotel is also located next to thermal pools; which is a great extra after a long day on a road.
The location is excellent. Right in the center of Călimănești and 50 meters from a supermarket. It's also quiet since it's not on the main street. I was always on the run and being able to prepare some food quickly was a life saver. If you don't have a car it's the best possible option. The host was kind and helpful. Planning to return soon.
Thank you!
The feeling to be with Romanian people was great and much better than to stay in an anonymous hotel on the road. Their hospitality was great. In the morning we've got coffee and cake and there was a nice chat. the lady sent us home with lovely selfmade marmelade. great experience. Everything was super clean.
Excellent newly built hotel. Everything is well thought to help tourists. Food was exquisite, real fine dining. Excellent service and we even had live music! Thermal pool was soooo good and an interesting twist was the spa in a big wooden barrel.
The hotel actually looks better in reality than in the pictures, which was a first for us. We were expecting less given the 3 stars, but it can safely rival with a 4 stars hotel.
Good food, excellent spa, cozy rooms.
Such a wonderful hotel, well-equipped, clean, providing all the facilities, but shame on the staff! Reception staff is very professional, but restaurant staff were not polite! Restaurant orders took ages to arrive!
Exceptional from all points of view. The hotel is new,the spa area is the best i have seen, everything is done with great taste. The staff very warm and welcoming.
