Lovely area, right on the end of Loch Ness with terrific views. The Canal Locks are great to watch in operation, with all types of boats going through. Good restaurants and nice pub along the canal. Good central place to visit other areas, Inverness, Mallaig and Fort William.

Situated at the end of Loch Ness with a steep set of locks which form the start of the Caledonian Canal, Fort Augustus is a must visit destination if you are in the area. There is a good sized car park and an excellent choice of places to eat. We had an excellent meal at the Chinese restaurant. Lots of opportunities for boat trips along the loch and some nice shops for souvenirs.

We stayed here only one night whilst doing the Great Glen Way although it seemed like a beautiful place and there seemed to be many other things to do in the area. Lots of options for dinner (compared with other towns along the way).

Fort Augustus is a great spot to attractions in the area and easy drive for location upto 2hours away, like Glencoe, Fort William, Glenfinnin Viaduct, Aviemore ski fields, Urquart Castle, Inverness, Skye. Cruising or walk along Loch Ness are brilliant.
The town is gorgeous with many good eateries within walking distance or a short drive away.
Locals are friendly, inviting and engaging. I would live there if I could!

Didn't see much of Fort Augustus really.
Didn't see much of Fort Augustus really. Walked around a bit in the evening when we arrived. Only there for 2 days and used as a base for trips around Loch Ness - Urquart Castle, Culloden Battlefield. Which were all great.
Arrived on a Friday night after 8pm in early November. Only places still serving food were a very expensive Chinese restaurant in a hotel and a place called The Moorings which appeared to be a kebab shop that dabbled in everything else. Unfortunately, they should stick to one thing and really try to nail that. We ordered the worst eat out Pizzas we've ever eaten - worse than home brand supermarket frozen and they were very expensive - £15+ each. Even the local chip shop was closed, at 8.30pm on a Friday! OK, we didn't come for the late night fast food. Bring your own or eat a good lunch.

Much quieter than Inverness and a delightful pretty village with good pubs and recommend The Bothy. Take a short walk to the very bottom of Loch Ness. Also take a drive down the much quieter and superbly more scenic route down the east side of Loch Ness on B862/B852. Fascinating to see the canal locks in the village.
Natalie was a great host. The hotel is quite quirky with a nicely maintained garden. The room was smaller than expected and the tv package had CNN, something I did not expect to find in Fort Augustus. The breakfast was fine and plentiful. The establishment is nicely decorated with with an assortment of quirky and funny touches. In spite of what I state below, I would stay at the Kettle House again. It's eccentric, quirky and a gem of a place.
Beautiful property, spacious enough for a good sized family. Excellent location, unique property, and fantastic amenities. Plenty to do even in the winter time. The indoor heated pool was a family favorite. Easy walk to get groceries and enjoy Fort Augustus, and it’s a great starting point for day trips around Loch Ness, down south to Glencoe, and further west to Isle of Skye. Loved the claw foot tub and heated towel holders!
We had an enjoyable stay and Anne was very welcoming. Beautiful view from lounge area. Room was comfortable with good amenities. Breakfast was good. Location was ideal, on edge of Fort Augustus literally a 1 minute drive if that into town. The town is pretty and given size has a selection of places to eat. We had a great meal at The Boathouse which has a beautiful location on Loch Ness. Cannot fault anything.
Great location in Fort Augustus. Easy walking distance from the locks between lochs. Great little village with different food options and great pubs to relax and have a drink.
Whitehouse has an easy self check-in. Plenty of parking for guests. Lots of options for self-serve breakfast, and the bread for toast. Hosts are fantastic, friendly, and care about their guests.
The apartment was spacious and comfortable for two adults and was well equipped for a week long stay. The cost was very competitive for Fort Augustus but the best thing about the property was the location, which was excellent. Right on top of the canal lock gates and a couple of minutes from the shops and restaurants etc.
The location was ideal right in the heart of Fort Augustus, easy walking distance to everything. The room was very nice and extremely clean and well presented. There is a cafe attached to the hotel for breakfast if you wish to eat there (coffee was very nice!) and the hotel was quiet despite being in a busy location.
Great location just a few minutes' walk from restaurants, tourist attractions and Loch Ness cruise line. Rooms were basic and adequate. Comfortable bed. Great large family/living room to hang out in - with basic kitchen facilities. Loved being able to make tea in the evening. Very basic, good continental breakfast.
Greeted with a lovely welcome to our cabin which was spacious, clean and had everything you needed. The lemon and poppy seed cake and chocolate cake that was waiting for us in the kitchen went down a treat with a cuppa after our long drive to fort Augustus. A beautiful area to stay in for a few days.
Chris and Felicity were extremely welcoming and helpful. The apartment was exceptional and a credit to them. Fort Augustus is the perfect base to explore the Highlands and the apartment was the perfect base in Fort Augustus! Would recommend without hesitation.
Great location. Very close to Loch Ness and Fort Augustus. It is a easy walk. Really nice and spacious and nice grounds. Staff were friendly. Nice bar area with good selection of drinks. Dining area is is good and have self-contained kitchen to use.
This is a lovely property. The room is extremely comfortable with an incredible attention to detail. Anne is so hospitable. And Fort Augustus is a perfect location from which to explore Fort William, Loch Ness, Inverness, and the Isle of Skye.
Very friendly staff in a great location overlooking Loch Ness. We walked in to Fort Augustus along the back road, which only took 15 minutes. We waited until early evening and the crowds had dispersed which gave us a pleasant visit.
What a beautiful place to stay! The location could not be better, close to Fort Augustus, right at Loch Ness. Those views! We loved staying there, the owners were super friendly.
Superb clean Hotel, dog friendly rooms, fantastic staff and excellent location. Chef makes a Menu that is so tasty and certainly fine dining experience.
