We first had a normal room, but these were really a bit small. For 50 Euro a night extra we got a suite, which is like an apartment and has a separate bedroom and a big balcony. You have a spectacular view on mount Pico and the harbour. The staff are very nice, the building is an old fort and the entire feeling is one of a Spanish Parador. To be honest, I believe this is one of the few luxury hotels on Faial (but I did not visit all the others:)). When you leave, there are plenty restaurants and bars in walking distance. The restaurant of the hotel is also very good, but the menu is very very short and did not change during our stay. We got a later check out without trouble.

A wonderful hidden island for people who like the silence, the hiking and the mountains. Beware that the supermarkets have few things.
Azores are expensive to live, because of few available homes and the prices raise up.

Loved the old city...however, construction was taking place which made getting around by car a little confusing. Loved walking around the waterfront and seeing the famous marina as well as the artwork created by mariners. Shopping in the local stores was a good experience with prices that you don't feel taken advantage of. Shopping in the city's Mercado was also a nice experience. Trying new restaurants around the city was also a good experience. While there, rent a car...best way to get around as public transportation is not regular or abundant. Also, try to visit the neighboring island of Pico on the ferry and spend a few days there...lots to see.

Island more quiet than Sao Miguel, felt more centered around the sea. A good mix of sea and land. A few good walks along the shore or around a caldera or inland. Unusual landscapes. The roads are very good compared to Sao Miguel.

We have now visited Horta 13 times in eight years, and will continue to visit in coming months/years. For a small city in the middle of the North Atlantic, Horta has a very welcoming feel, and is an ideal base for people wanting to visit the central group of Azorean Islands.
It's easy to walk around, and the rest of the island of Faial is accessible through day tours, e.g. with Azores Experiences who we would highly recommend. There are whale and dolphin watching trips from March - October, together with walking tours, Caldeira descent (which requires a formal guide and cannot be done alone), and a visit to the volcano and interpretation centre at Capelinhos is a must.
There are a good number of excellent restaurants (Atletico, Medalhas, Genuino, Taberna do Pim, etc.) and the Oceanic bar and restaurant (their barbecue is superb) to try locally caught fish and local beef. For a good value breakfast or lunch, there are plenty of small cafes (e.g. Cafe Silva, behind Peter's Cafe) which offer great hospitality.
If the weather is good and you fancy a relaxing day, there is also the beach at Porto Pim, which is used regularly by visitors and locals alike.

Nice little layd back town with astounding views of the islands Faial and Pico with their different and mystifying volcanoes, over the ever present calming ocean sights and sounds. Friendly locals serve all kinds of traditional and popular dishes and snacks, and offer quality lodging depending on your wishes and wallet. With a rental car, taxi or public transport it's easy to visit interesting geological, natural and cultural locations spread around the island. There is a lot of time and space there to come to yourself or interact with the local community.
Beautiful 3-bedroom apartment in an exciting location with views of Porto Pim Bay. Convenient to walk into town and to various activities and restaurants. Comfortable living space and bedrooms. Excellent kitchen and bathrooms. Very responsive booking office and onsite staff, always proactive and ready to help with anything we needed. Wifi and TV were great. We loved our stay and highly recommend this apartment.
excellent apartment. It is all very clean and comfortable, the kitchen is perfectly equipped- including dish soap, salt, etc.
it has an amazing garden with an awesome view on the pico vulcano. it is perfectly located, because you can reach the main part of Horta in a few minutes walking.

Very good location in center of Horta.
Swimming pool area is perfect for refreshing/relaxing/sunbathing.
The staff (reception, housekeeping, breakfast) is very helpful.
Very nice view on the harbor and Pico mountain from the shaded large balcony.
Parking places just in front of the hotel. Not a lot and not 'reserved' for guests, but we were always lucky to find an available place.
The quiet location, just two minutes walk from the beach and close to bars and restaurants.
The terrace outside with a view. The beautiful garden
The hospitality details like the welcome beers and water, and some coffee pods available for the expresso machine.
The soft comfortable beds.
We enjoyed our stay in this double room and we recommend.
After having stayed at the Terra Nostra Garden Hotel, it was a bit of a shock to find out Hotel Do Canal was owned by the same company. It looked and felt so different. Staff never really smiled or made eye contact. The uniform looked very casual borderline unprofessional. The breakfast was not great either. The room and view was fine.
Beautifull house and kind owners. It is situated close enough to Horta to be part of town but far enough to enjoy a rural atmosphere.
Sadly the weather was rather grey when whe where there as the pool looked very tempting. The overal style of the gardens and building is very nice. A pleasant eye for detail.
Top location in Horta, just few meters behind the famous Peter's sports bar. Apartment is very comfortable and spacious, kitchen is equipped with everything you need, the balcony and the roof terrace are super cool, the windmill on top of the roof terrace was amazing. Stuff is very nice and helpful.
The size of the rooms and layout of the apartment made it so everyone could have quiet when they needed it. The apartment was well equipped and the location made our stay extra special. The outdoor patio and garden gave us a place to relax when at home, but still be outside.
The accomodation was large, clean and with a beautiful view of nerby Pico mountain.
The centre of Horta was well accessible by walking distance.
We appreciatted calm and helpful attitude of our host as well as location and nature around.
- flat was really comftprtable and brand new, it looks in reality even better than on pictures

The view from this hotel of Mt Pico is unmatched, especially from the beautiful infinity pool. The hotels breakfast was delicious and had so many options! The hotel was in a great location for walking to downtown Horta.
It was a wonderful time in this amazing Villa. I had the most amazing breakfast of the Azores prepared by Ivette. A breathtaking view from the room. I wist all the best to Ivett for the future!
The property is very well located on the Horta port, with bars and restaurants around.
The property is fully equipped to cook.
