Picture-postcard Heidelberg is guarded by its famous castle halfway up a hill. If you don’t fancy walking, a funicular railway goes there and continues to Königstuhl Mountain whose views are fit for the king it is named after. Dating to the 13th century, the ruined castle has peaceful gardens to wander, and the Heidelberg Tun, the world’s biggest wine barrel. And big it is!
At the foot of the hill is cobbled Hauptstrasse, supposedly Germany’s longest pedestrian shopping street selling traditional German beer mugs amongst other things. Also here are pavement cafes, the odd bierkeller and several Heidelberg hotels.
A short walk west is the Heiliggeistkirche (Church of the Holy Spirit), towering above the Baroque old town. Its square is the site of the Heidelberg Christmas markets, while to the north the beautiful Old Bridge crosses the Neckar River and ends at a twin-towered city gate.
Further west is Heidelberg University, the oldest in Germany and with a national reputation to rival Cambridge, its twin city. Over the river, Neckarwiese is a riverside park popular with students for a barbecue and beer, while by night the city’s many bars stay open until the early hours (and beyond!).
The nearest airports – Frankfurt and Stuttgart – both offer quick access by train to the Heidelberg accommodation on Booking.com

Heidelberg is a stunning place, but perhaps it's a victim of its own success and I would think twice about going there at the height of the tourist season. Even on a wet Saturday morning in May, the old bridge was packed with Chinese tourists taking selfies, so I can't begin to imagine what it's like in the summer. My advice would be to go off season, have an early breakfast and wander the streets before the shops open.

Heidelberg is probably the most beautiful city I have visited in Germany. It looks like something out of a fairy tale. You can also enjoy nature in this city, I took the philosopher way and ended up on top of a mountain. It was just fantastic.

We just stopped for one night, between trains so just had a few hours and the evening. The Altstadt was very nice to wander round, and for a beer and dinner. I would like to go back and visit the castle, and see more of the town and area.

Heidelberg is a beautiful City.
Heidelberg is a beautiful City. You can't visit and have a bad time if you enjoy culture and exploration!
Choosing the right accommodation for you always helps of course but the City itself is enough to lift anyone's spirits.
Of course the castle on the hill was beautiful as you would expect. I knew it would look amazing up there before we went, and still wasn't prepared for how magnificent it was. The views from the castle were so scenic, I facetimed home to show them, which you were able to do up a mountain because there was 5G connection everywhere.
It is one of those places where if you do it right, you get to know the culture and understand it very quickly and immerse yourself in it.
Would highly recommend visiting at Christmas time.
I went to Heidelberg for a work meeting in the old town, the hotel could not be in a better location, right in the city centre but also in a small narrow street. My room was quiet, clean, comfortable and the wifi worked well, I do not need more for a work trip but would also be good for a touristic visit to Heidelberg.
Compared to other hotels of similar prices I've been to in Heidelberg in other occasions I think this was better.
I did not have breakfast so I cannot say anything about it.
This hotel was fabulous - worth every penny. We even added an extra night to our stay because we loved it so much. We traveled with our 1 year old son and the staff was more than happy to accommodate a crib in our room, no charge. The breakfast was wonderful, anything you could want, even champagne! Our room was very spacious and had everything we needed, the bathroom was so clean it shined and the turndown service was a lovely touch. We'd 100% stay here again if we came back to Heidelberg!!!!
The hotel is fairly new. It is clean and well maintained.
The halls are quiet, and you do not hear your neighbors.
There is a communal kitchen that is well stocked with pots and pans and dishes, etc.
The concept is unique, but we always found it to be very clean and tidy.
The clientele of the guests is varied, from packpackers to business people to families and groups in every age category.
The hotel is a 10 minute walk to th main transit station of Heidelberg.
Excellent and modern hotel in Heidelberg's newly built Bahnstadt living suburb. Best to take a car or public transport to reach the old town or the Palace however (4-5 km away). Hotel was superb - excellent and plentiful breakfast, nice staff, great parking, very cool room in a heatwave, great amenities. Loved it. The area also had restaurants and even some friday night happenings so being remote wasn't a problem.
Everything. Stayed here before. Its a great hotel. The penthouse suite has a balcony with about 16 sockets (counted them) its one of the best value hotels in Heidelberg. Only thing they dont do breakfast anymore. Something to do with covid. But its great! There's a coffee machine great bed, nice bathroom & balcony, cheaper than most places & fairly near train station. What more could I want? Thanks 7 Days 🙂
For key collection, my phone didn't work, but my daughter was already in Germany and had a German cell phone that worked. However, I noticed after we got the keys the there is a public telephone right outside this apartment location. Louisa was super quick to get over to the apartment and let us in once we contacted her, and if you have to wait, there's a very nice coffee bar downstairs.
Chosen this hotel just by it's look - old (actually oldest building in Heidelberg) baroque facade, also inside there is some intriguely mysterious hall - but at the same time room is completely modern and spotlessly clean!
Location is superb, it's just the heart of old town.
Also due to heat they provided portable ventilator.
Definitely the best hotel during this trip
The appartment was clean and comfortable and well located: one bus stop away from the Heidelberg main station and 20 minutes by bus to the Rathaus/Bergbahn - City Center/Altstadt.Rewe and DM Stores located at Seegarten bus stop and a fun looking Mandy's Diner near the hotel. We have enjoyed our stay, Heidelberg is beautiful 🙂 And the hotel staff was friendly 😊
Hotel B54 Heidelberg was very easy to find, and within walking distance of several restaurants, a pharmacy, and other stores that our family was interested in. The rates were such that we got two separate rooms for ourselves and our teenagers. It was warmer than expected that week, but the aid con worked wonderfully to keep us comfortable as we slept.
I love this hotel. The staff were amazing and the breakfast was so good. The facilities are right in downtown Heidelberg easy to walk and they have parking for a reasonable price right in the next walk! I was very happy with my stay here and would definitely recommend this place again.
Beautiful location, hotel was lovely. Breakfast was delicious, many choices over and above the normal breakfast fare. Room and bed were very comfortable. Beautiful view, took the Tram from the hotel to the Heidelberg Castle and then on to Old Town Heidelberg.
It is a budget hotel not far away from the Heidelberg main station and relatively easily accessible from the city centre. My small single room was quite comfortable and well-lit and had everything I needed. The breakfast was fine and the staff quite nice.
A fantastic small hotel for a stay in Heidelberg. Clean, comfortable, friendly and helpful staff, excellent location with a river view, right next to the old city with good bus connections to EMBL. The breakfast was superb! Will surely return.
A wonderful, old school hotel. The service is exceptional. The rooms are perfectly adequate and there's a good bus connection to Heidelberg Altstadt right outside the hotel.
A very good price quality ratio. Recommended!
The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The reception staff was very accommodating and genuinely caring. The hotel was quiet and pleasantly decorated.
Convenient location for visiting Heidelberg Bridge.
This is a basic but cheap and practical hotel. The room was big and beds comfy. Yes it's old and a bit worn but it's perfect for a night and some of these reviews are a bit harsh..
20 min walk to old town
The hotel is in a very nice neighboorhood. Clean and comfortable. Good selection of breakfast. The hotel staff is very polite. The Heidelberg city is just 10 minutes away by tram 24.
The hotel had a wonderful location in downtown Heidelberg. It was walking distance to everything. Lots of shops and restaurants right outside. Room was quiet.
